It takes a Village

Updated: Sep 3, 2022

Hello, my lovely readers.

Ever heard the proverb “It takes a village to raise a child”? Yes. An entire community of people is needed to provide a child with a safe and conducive environment for healthy development and experiences in their lives.

Another proverb that comes to mind is “Behind every great man, there is a great woman”, which emphasizes that a man’s success depends so much on the hard work and support of the lady in his life- be it a wife, partner, or mother.

The list of proverbs could go on, but my point here is, that most of the hardships in life can be made easier to face or goals in life could be achieved if one has a supportive and caring family.

When I am with my family, things around me move like clockwork, without me having to tell them even for once, what I need or want. Family can help me change my moods, ideas, and decisions too, especially when it’s in my favor(chuckle). Having said that, family is extremely important, even if we may not admit that very often.

Since families can influence so much in lives, is it not possible for them to reach out and support the women in the family during an important milestone- Menopause?

As a family, we may be confused about where to start and what to do. So let me help you set up a step-by-step guideline, and then you are free to improvise.

Collect information from the right sources: Women are going to cross the menopause threshold anytime between the age of 40 to 50 years, but some may face symptoms much earlier. Get an understanding of various symptoms like bloating, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, anxiety, foggy thinking, depression, excessive dryness, and reduced libido. Not all women go through all these symptoms, but it's good to know the list.

Communication is the Key: Talking and being patient in listening to what she has to say and what she feels, translates into being cared for. This would help her feel less guilty about untimely mood swings as well as relieve her anxiety and depression too. Remember, it’s a phase, and “this too shall pass”.

Show it in your action: Empathize and go the extra mile by helping her with tackling physical symptoms. Small things like arranging extra fans, adjusting the setting of the AC during hot flushes or nightly sweats, setting reminders in case of foggy thoughts, and resetting family food habits to improve her bloating or indigestion. A small gesture goes long way.

Be her cheerleader: Hormonal changes hit the body in many ways. Weight gain and loss of confidence top the list. Be their workout partners to keep the motivation going and help them gain their smile, irrespective of all the adversities.

Load her with love: pecks, kisses, hugs, and cuddles- never underestimate their power. Giada Rosa is the perfect gift for her as its made of Rose Quartz self-love which she needs most, to be accepting of her Menopause

Here you go. Now go and treat your queen.

Hit me up, if you have any queries and I shall be more than happy to solve them for you. Cheers!
